Extreme Art Therapy: Syrian Stonemasons
Kadijah and Aisha fled Syria’s brutal civil war with their children – leaving their homes and lives behind. During the war, the country’s vibrant cities and important heritage sites such as Palmyra and Damascus were destroyed.
Now living in Jordan, near the Syrian border, Kadijah and Aisha are among a group of refugee students being taught traditional stonemasonry. The project aims to provide its students with the valuable skills that could one day see them help rebuild Syria’s monuments when its displaced citizens can finally return to their homeland.
