Aerosol Arabic creates street art for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2’s Faith in the World Week

Mohammed Ali MBE - aka Aerosol Arabic - painted a work based on the theme of Peacemakers during Good Morning Sunday on 21 October.

This year’s Faith in the World Week contains a wealth of inspiring human interest stories as Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2 looks at what can be achieved when ordinary people, families and communities collaborate with each other to transform neighbourhoods into places of reconciliation and inclusion rather than places of conflict, tension and suspicion.

Mohammed Ali MBE, aka Aerosol Arabic, created a piece of street art during Good Morning Sunday on 21 October for Faith in the World Week. He was awarded an MBE for his work with divided communities creating street art in which he fuses Islamic script and patterns with powerful messages for social change. His street art for FITWW will be displayed in Quay House until 11 November.

Mohammed says: "This work is based on my experience of visiting Sarajevo and Srebrenica a few weeks ago to learn about the genocide that took place in the 1990s. I was amazed at how life carried on.

"Yes, it’s still a troubled society, trauma is still visible, with buildings covered in bullet holes and scars from the shelling that took place, yet people carry on with their lives and have no hatred in their hearts after what happened

"There are so many lessons for us in society to learn from. For me the Srebrenica genocide is a lesson from history that demonstrates that even an integrated society, with a centuries-old tradition of multi-culturalism can be torn apart by hatred. Decades later the scars have not healed."
