Strange Letters: Episode 2 - 'I do feel there is a chance he is still alive' - 6th Oct 1918

Ruth Strange - born in North Dorset - served as a nurse, in a number of hospitals during World War 1.

She wrote home, around the time one of her brothers went missing in action.

Yesterday (Monday, 24 September 2018) marked the 100th anniversary of the disappearance of Ben Strange. He and, particularly his brother, Louis were two pilots at the forefront of aerial warfare.

Ben is listed as missing in action. His body has never been found.

Yesterday, we heard how Ruth heard the news about her bother - as she worked, as a nurse, in a hospital in France.

Here's the next letter, written a couple of days later.

Ruth's words are read by her great-granddaughter, Rachel, and introduced by Ruth's grandson, Jonathan, who recently discovered the letters.

This letter was written by Ruth on 6th October 1918.
