Why craft beer is growing in popularity
As a nation, we’re drinking less beer. Yearly sales in pubs have been falling by an average of nearly 4%, according to the beer barometer data from the British Beer and Pub Association. But craft breweries are springing up all over Britain. Everyone from film director Guy Ritchie to smallholders are brewing up local ale in micro-breweries. Many use British hops and barley grown by neighbouring farmers. A brewing expert explains the growing popularity of craft beer to Sybil Ruscoe.
