Radio 3 in Concert Rhythm of Life: Kirill Karabits conducts Messiaen's Turangalila-symphonie Ondes Martenot
Cynthia Millar has been playing the Ondes Martenot since the 1980s. An electronic instrument invented in 1928 by Maurice Martenot, production of the instrument stopped in 1988. It has featured in the works of several composers, but is intimately associated with Messiaen and his mighty Turangalila Symphony (premiered in 1948).
