Institutes have been a band since the Summer of 2013, with the core of the group playing together since college days.

They describe their music as "lyrical prowess with infectious toplines" with influences from Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, Massive Attack and Foals.

Frontman Gareth Griffiths also performed at Glastonbury this year, so it was a real pleasure to welcome them to our Â鶹ԼÅÄ Introducing stage at Lakefest.

This weekend it’s the 10th anniversary of the Worcester Music Festival, which has been dubbed as Worcester’s version of South By South West in Texas!

Almost 300 acts will be performing in 25 venues throughout the city - from pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes to historic buildings, record shops, on the streets and even in breweries.

The festival is absolutely free with hundreds of gigs to choose from.

It started off to celebrate the unique salt heritage of the town and it's grown in size.

Last week, some of the biggest names in music came to Worcester to perform at the Concert Of Legends which took place at the New Road cricket club.
Ìý
Billy Ocean has sold over 30 million records in his lifetime. He has collected a pile of Gold and Platinum records across the world and hit the number one spot worldwide on pop charts including the USA, Australia, Germany, Holland and the UK.

Billy has achieved extraordinary success as both an artist and a songwriter. Born in Trinidad, Billy settled in London’s East End when he was just seven years old.

Billy got his first break when he signed to GTO records, for whom his second single was the Motown-ish Love Really Hurts Without You, which reached number two in the UK charts and number 12 in the US.

Two top twenty singles followed – Love on Delivery and Stop Me, then Red Light Spells Danger became a smash in both the UK and the US.
Ìý
Billy changed record labels and his move to Jive Records provided instant success, with the million selling American number one single Caribbean Queen for which Billy won a Grammy for best R&B Vocal.

His other hits include Loverboy, Suddenly and the now classic Get Outta My Dreams; Get Into My Car.

Concert Of Legends: Paul Carrack
Paul Carrack is an English singer, songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist who has recorded as both a solo artist and as a member of several popular bands.

The Â鶹ԼÅÄ dubbed Carrack ‘The Man with the Golden Voice’, while Record Collector remarked: “If vocal talent equalled financial success, Paul Carrack would be a bigger name than legends such as Phil Collins or Elton John.
Ìý
Carrack rose to prominence in the mid-1970s as the frontman and principal songwriter of Ace, and gained further recognition for his work as a solo artist and for his tenures as a member of Roxy Music, Squeeze and Roger Waters’ backing band, The Bleeding Heart Band, intermittently handling lead vocals on Squeeze and Waters recordings.

From the mid-1980s to the early 2000’s, he enjoyed considerable success as the co-frontman and a songwriter for Mike + The Mechanics.

Carrack’s songs have been recorded by artists such as the Eagles, Diana Ross, Tom Jones, Michael McDonald and Jools Holland, and he has served as a session and/or touring musician for the likes of Elton John, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, B.B. King, The Pretenders and The Smiths.

Headliners included Wilko Johnson, Aswad, The Charlatans, Badly Drawn Boy, Feeder, Imelda May, Rozalla and Seth Lakeman.

Organisers say it's one of the fastest growing festivals in the UK and Â鶹ԼÅÄ Hereford & Worcester had a tent at the festival for the three days, showcasing local talent from across the area.Ìý

After recently being honoured with a blue plaque in his home town - plans have been submitted for a statue of one of Worcestershire's greatest musical sons.

John Bonham - born in Redditch and affectionately known as Bonzo - was the drummer for Led Zeppelin until he died at the age of 32 in 1980.

You might remember that earlier this year, we unveiled the tribute at Headless Cross as part of Â鶹ԼÅÄ Music Day.

Campaigners are hoping to get approval to build a bronze tribute to the world class drummer in the town centre - and last week, the planning application has been sent in to the local council.

He set up a website called NotJustSauce - aiming to put Worcester on the map musically.

It's been dubbed as Britain's version of SXSW in Texas!

Taking place in around multiple venues across the city, from pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes to historic buildings, river cruisers, record shops, on the streets and even in breweries, the festival is absolutely free to attend with hundreds of gigs to choose from.
