Is brunch socially divisive?

Young middle-class creatives are spending money they don't have on a performance that separates them from everyone else. Toronto author Sean Micallef has grown to detest brunch and has written a whole book on the subject. He says we've seen a new style of the meal grow as major cities have gentrified. But he says it's a conspicuous display that people can't afford.
