Knife Crime in Leicestershire
Figures seen by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Leicester show that incidents involving someone carrying a knife or bladed weapon are on the rise across our city and counties.
The data which we've obtained through a Freedom of Information request shows that, last year, more than 900 (nine hundred) such cases were recorded by Leicestershire Police - up by a third on the previous 12 months. Break that down, and it would suggest that up to three knife-related incidents are being recorded by the police every single day. Since the start of September, there's been a spate of seven stabbings resulting in serious injury. Over the years, there's been no shortage of police operations and community schemes to tackle knife crime.
