Men's Bronze Medal Game - Australia v Spain
Full coverage. Australia looked imperious in dismissing Lithuania in the quarter-finals, but a defeat to Serbia in the semi-finals leaves them scrapping for bronze with Spain.
Full coverage of the men's bronze medal match between Australia and Spain from the Carioca Arena.
Australia looked imperious in dismissing Lithuania in the quarter-finals and seemed set to challenge for the gold. Unfortunately for them, a wholly disappointing 87-61 defeat to Serbia in the semi-finals put paid to those dreams and leaves them scrapping for bronze with Spain. Having lost in the Olympic bronze medal match three times , the Australians will be desperately hoping that history does not repeat itself.
The Spanish on the other hand pushed USA all the way in their semi, eventually falling 82-76 but restricting the all-conquering Americans to their lowest score since 2004. They have won silver in the last two Olympics and will be hopeful of ushering their host of veteran stars into retirement with a final medal to cherish.
