At least 10,000 children could be at "terrible risk" because they are effectively off the police鈥檚 radar when they go missing, a group of MPs has warned.

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Runaway and Missing Children and Adults found a two-tier police system for recording reported disappearances was dangerous and must be scrapped.

At present there are two categories for registering children - either missing or absent - but, crucially, only those treated as missing get an active police response.
