Toddlers need much more stimulation in pre-school education to take advantage of their explosive brain growth, scientists and psychologists say. They are warning that pre-school children could be set back decades if not enough is done at nurseries to make the most of what they call the 'lightbulb' years. Figures released by the charity Save the Children reveal that almost 130,000 children a year are already behind in early language ability by their first day of school. It wants every nursery in England to employ a qualified Early Years teacher.
