Colombia’s Animal Rescue Centre

Thousands of creatures are saved from smugglers each year – but what happens to them next?

Thousands of creatures are saved from smugglers each year – but what happens to them next? After Colombia made the sale and possession of wild animals illegal back in the mid 1990s, many creatures – including monkeys, turtles and parrots – have been found and confiscated. But these creatures need to be rehabilitated before they can be returned to their jungle homes. We visit a new centre in the country’s capital, Bogota, to find out about their life-saving work.

Also on the show, we hear from Alex, the young British owner of the fastest-growing modelling agency in Europe; the growing popularity of brand-new sport, Frisbee-golf; and the Indonesia students taking to the streets to fight for democracy.
