Council leader wants elected mayor for county

Jim Harker, the leader of Northamptonshire County Council said that his "ideal" would be one unitary authority for Northamptonshire replacing the county, borough and district councils.

All seven of the county's MPs have written to council leader asking for discussion to begin on forming unitary authority and Councillor Harker says the county could even have an elected mayor.
