Western Park Golf Club Closing
Members of one of Leicester's oldest golf courses are preparing to say goodbye before it shuts forever this weekend. Western Park Golf Club is one of the city's two council-run courses, but earlier this year it was decided that it had to close - because it was too expensive to keep running. Leicester City Council says it costs it Β£123,000 to subsidise Western Park, which is twice as much as Humberstone Heights - the other council-ran course. Members claimed those figures were inaccurate, but the council said that - in the current financial climate - it was no longer viable. It means that this Saturday players will tee off for the very last time. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Leicester's Manish Verma has been speaking to Hugh Linden, the very last club captain at Western Park.
