Skateboarding in the City
A civil rights campaign group says that Local Authorities shouldn't be allowed to criminalise certain behaviour from specific areas because it breaches people's human rights. 'Public Space Protection Orders' are already in force in parts of Leicester city centre, Market Harborough and Lutterworth town centres. It means police have the power to tell a person to stop of surrender alcohol if they intend to drink in places associated with anti-social behaviour. And now its being considered by a council in Kettering- but not to ban drinking. Instead they're considering stopping skateboarders from riding around certain parts of the town. Well there's currently no such proposals in Leicestershire and Rutland, but it does seem like plenty more skaters have been taking to our streets in recent years. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Leicester's Jack Rafferty has been speaking to skateboarders in Leicester about their hobby and to find out how they'd feel if they were kept out of city centres.
