River Pollution

A river running through Northwest Leicestershire is part of a legal challenge to get the government to take the protection of river habitats more seriously. The River Mease near Measham is not only the home to white clawed crayfish, bullhead fish, and also otters, but is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a special Area Conservation which is protected under British and European law. Sadly, in recent years the river has suffered pollution from agriculture and urban developments and is now part of a nationwide legal challenge against the Environment Agency and Defra, to ensure it's properly protected.
