Migrant Donations
Thousands of donated items such as clothes, toiletries and beddings is on its way from Leicester to help migrants in Calais, Greece and beyond. The items were collected at 16 points across Leicestershire before being sorted last night by volunteers and transported away. Well it all comes as the European Commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker, has set out plans to make EU countries accept one-hundred and twenty-thousand refugees -- in addition to the forty-thousand agreed earlier this year. Mr Juncker said the refugees should be distributed between EU countries, with binding quotas -- though the UK is not included in the scheme. But as the political arguments go on, people in Leicestershire have been getting stuck in to help. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Leicester's Manish Verma has been to the National Space Centre where a mountain of donations from all over the County were being organised before being delivered to those that need it most.
