Begging in Leicester
A beggar in Leicester believes that cuts to benefits and the closure of hostels is driving more people like him to the streets. It comes more than a year into a joint initiative between Leicester City Council and Leicestershire Police - to steer people away from begging. Last April, the local authority and the police started a new scheme - working with homeless charities, and offering support to those that need it. It was after residents and businesses complained about the number of people hassling them for money. But more than 12 months on from attempting to tackle the problem, it seems the issue hasn't gone away.
