Migrant Labour in Asia Pacific
Did the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ migrant labour series lack context? And, Newshour air a questionable tale.
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s recent Workers Without Borders series looks into the movement of temporary migrant labourers across the Asia Pacific region. In collaboration with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the programmes aimed to show both the benefits and dangers felt by the individual workers and their countries. For some of you though, the programme could have offered more context and dug deeper into the issue. Rajan Datar speaks to the programme’s producer Laurence Grissell (Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ) and presenter Claudia Taranto (ABC) to hear how they struck a balance between personal stories and academic detail.
Plus, one listener asks why Newshour did not question their interviewee, writer Albert Podell, when he described witnessing a cruel culinary practise take place in Hong Kong decades ago.
