The Sinking of the Lusitania
In 1915, during WW1, the passenger liner was torpedoed by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland. The ship was travelling from New York to Liverpool and 1,200 people died.
In 1915, the passenger liner RMS Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland with the loss of 1,200 lives. The liner had been travelling from New York to Liverpool. It was one of the most controversial incidents in WW1 and helped turn American opinion against Germany.
