The Lady of the Lake, Sir Walter Scott (extract)

The Lady of the Lake, by Sir Walter Scott, was first published in 1810 when Scott was thirty-nine. It was dedicated to "the most noble John James, Marquis of Abercorn."

It is set in the Trossachs region of Scotland and is composed of six cantos, each of which concerns the action of a single day. Eight thousand copies of the volume were sold between June and September, 1810.
