Belgrave Flyover Closure

The Belgrave flyover, the concrete road-in-the-sky which links Belgrave Road toÌýleicester city centre, has closed as work starts on demolishing this giant piece of seventies architecture.

While work to get rid of it is carried out, this isÌýhow the council plansÌýto deal with motoristsÌýtrying toÌýavoid snarl-ups, gridlock and congestion.

From Saturday 15 FebruaryÌýbus services will not be able to access Belgrave Road or Loughborough Road. Abbey Park Road will also be shut in an eastbound direction.


The following services will be diverted via Abbey Lane and St Margaret’s Way -
2, 22, 22A/B, 100,Ìý126/7 and 128.

The following services will be diverted via Checketts Road, Thurcaston Road and Abbey Lane - 5, 5A, 6, 22, 100 and 128.

The following services will be diverted via St Margaret’s Way for inbound journeys - 54 and 54A.

Free shuttle bus services

Ìý

Leicester City Council haveÌýorganised a free shuttle bus to link Belgrave residents with the diverted bus services highlighted above along Checketts Road from 15 until 23 February.

Ìý

The service will operate on a loop taking in Checketts Road, Melton Road, Portsmouth Road and Loughborough Road before returning to Checketts Road.


It will take in all stops along the route including a temporary stop on Loughborough Road.



The shuttle bus will operate around every 15 minutes on the below dates:

  • Monday 17 to Friday, 21 February from 06:00am until 11.30pm.
  • Saturday 15Ìýand SaturdayÌý22 February from 06:00am until 11:30pm.ÌýÌý
  • Sunday 16 and SundayÌý23 February from 09:00am until 10:45pm.
