Number Plate Theft On The Increase

Northamptonshire police say they recorded more than 40 instances of number plate theft in August, up two thirds on the previous month. Criminals use stolen plates to avoid fines and to steal petrol.

Northamptonshire police say they recorded more than 40 instances of number plate theft in August, up two-thirds on the previous month. Criminals use stolen plates to avoid fines for motoring offences and to steal petrol.

Victims are left with the inconvenience and hassle of proving their innocence as well as the cost of replacing their number plates.

Reporter Willy Gilder explains what the number plate thieves are up to, while reporter Stephen Humphries spoke to Jordan Logue from Corby who had his number plates stolen earlier this year.
