Alcohol abuse and binge drinking (drama)

Joe is 14 and in year 9. With nobody at home most of the time, excitement means experimenting with alcohol. His increasing bingeing is alienating even his close friends.

A drama about the effects of alcohol abuse and binge drinking on young people. Joe is 14 and in year 9. He is growing up fast. With nobody at home most of the time, excitement means experimenting with alcohol. He causes chaos at an older kids party and ends up on his own asleep on the night bus. His increasing bingeing is alienating even his close friend Chaz. Joe’s brother TB returns home just in time to rescue him. When Joe’s Mum discovers a stash of alcohol under the bed and blames TB, things come to a head.

Joe’s story raises questions about the risks and causes of alcohol abuse for young people. It looks closely at the behaviour of a young person who is starting to binge drink, with the associated denial and alienation of people around them. Joe has had little emotional support at home recently and runs the risk of losing his peer relationships and drifting into riskier relationships with exposure to more harm. But his brother seems to be a changed person after a spell in prison for drug offences. Joe has always been close to TB, who demonstrates real support for Joe, while not shying away from confronting him about his behaviour.
