L8R Youngers 3

The L8R Youngers characters are now aged 14, and these episodes deal with the risks and causes of alcohol abuse, as well as the impact of poverty, sexuality and social media.

Joe's brother TB returns home just in time to rescue his sibling. Why is Joe drinking alcohol? He's only 14. Does he really know what he's doing when he causes chaos at an older kid's party, alienating his friend Chaz? When Joe's mum discovers a stash of booze under the bed and blames TB, things come to a head.

Julie has always seemed a serious and conscientious girl, so what possesses her to steal a scrunchie from an accessories shop? Things are not as comfortable at home as it seems. Her parents cannot pay the bills. Fired with her usual quiet determination, Julie gets a job. But then what does she do with her earnings? Should she give them to her parents to help out?

Shanice is going out with an older boy, Julian. They like each other. But some of his mates just see her as fodder for their sexting games. Is this why Julian is putting pressure on her for sex? Shanice's friend Marcus says Julian wants to prove himself to his mates. Only Marcus can say this to her - they are close enough for him to almost talk to her about his own sexuality. In the end Shanice has a decision to make about Julian. Which way will she go?

L8R Youngers 3 picks up from the two previous series, both of which won Baftas. The characters are now 14 and in Year 9. They are multi-ethnic, lively, funny, street, serious, and stuck with all the problems and pleasures of growing up. The challenges of adolescence are all around, and they meet them with their usual mixture of savvy, honesty and humour.

The three episodes deal with the risks and causes of alcohol abuse, the impact and stigma of poverty, sexuality and the pressure to have sex for both girls and boys, as well as sexting and the impact of social media.
