Fashion and beauty industry influences on advertising
Amber Jane Butchart and Raphael Babalola, investigate why companies advertising fashion and beauty products usually use super-skinny, super-tall, super-young, white girls in their campaigns. We then discover what size most women in the UK actually are, and find out that men actually prefer women of all shapes, sizes and colours.
Finally, the pair reveal new research that suggests women would still spend money on clothing if advertisers used "real sized" models and demonstrate this using UK consumers. So who’s to blame for the promotion of non-diverse, over-airbrushed images that make us all feel inadequate about our body image? Amber and Raphael reveal all.
