Multi-Lingual Northamptonshire - Polish Speakers 11 Times The National Average

In parts of Northants the number of Polish speakers is 11 times the national average. Census data shows the highest proportion of Polish speakers are in Northampton, Wellingborough and Corby.

In parts of Northamptonshire the number of Polish speakers is 11 times the national average. Census data shows that more than a third of people in the county don't have English as their first language. The highest proportion of Polish speakers are in Northampton, Wellingborough and Corby.

Reporter Willy Gilder visits Stimpson Avenue Primary School in Northampton where the children speak more than 30 different languages. Willy talks to children who between them speak Latvian, Lithuanian, Russian and Polish and to the school's head teacher Iris McBrearty. Reporter Simon Watts meets Joanna Dziekonsa-Stapin who's opening a new language school in Northampton.

Stuart talks to Pawel Kuc who runs a website for the Polish community and to Piers Massey, a nurse consultant in the Accident and Emergency department at Northampton General Hospital.
