Did You Know?

Alison Wilding was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1988 and 1992 and became a member of the Royal Academy in 1999, the same year that her large-scale floating artwork, Ambit, was installed in the River Wear at Sunderland. It was constructed from 22 steel cylinders linked with tensioned springs and illuminated by underwater lighting to create a shifting structure that changed according to the ebb and flow of the tide.
