Dance party in the 1900s
A costumed re-enactment of a dance party in the 1900s. The party begins with a quadrille. Popular throughout the 19th century, quadrilles were formal dances involving four couples in a square moving in set formations. The second dance is the waltz - a slow and elegant dance. The waltz was one of the only dances where men and women could couple up, although they could only do so in accordance with strict etiquette. Women had to wear gloves and the 'hold' was such that physical contact was kept to a minimum.
