Has NHS Breast Screening Programme saved your life?
The breast cancer screening programme that the NHS runs at the moment saves a lot of lives - there is no doubt about that - we are talking 1,300 lives a year.
However, an independent review has found that it has also led to around 4,000 women having unnecessary treatment.
The report was commissioned by Cancer Research UK and the Department of Health - and it shows that for every breast cancer death prevented, about three 'overdiagnosed' cases will be identified and treated - and by 'overdiagnosis' they mean that a cancer detected through screening would not have caused a problem in the woman's lifetime.
The trouble is that the screening programme as it stands cannot differentiate between potentially fatal cancers and those which would go on to do nothing.
The Government is revising its leaflet to make people aware of the situation - but where does that leave you? Given the choice - what decision would you make?
Also on the programme, a couple of weeks ago, we talked about the death of the High Street. You may remember retail expert, Bill Grimsey told us he believed the High Street was dead and that places like Margate were not worth saving. We speak to Dan Thompson founder of the Empty Shops Network who disagrees. He believes the answer to reviving our High Streets might lie in local people and communities starting up their own businesses. He advocates a Pop Up fightback. He has written Pop Up Business for Dummies - the complete guide to planning, starting and running a successful Pop Up venture.
He is also coming down to Margate on 2nd November to run pop up workshops.
We hear your views and stories.
