Thanet District Council's economic strategy receives criticism

Thanet District Council has received a barrage of criticism over its draft strategy to boost the economy in East Kent.

Critics say the report contains no insights and no action plan.

Thanet District Council wants to attract new businesses, building on green energy and tourism to increase wage levels, which are currently amongst the worst in the UK.

Rob Hetherington, the 'regeneration Tsar' that penned the report, and David Foley, CEO of Thanet and East Kent chamber of Commerce, walk John and Matt through the ins and outs of the proposals (07.08).

Clive Hart, leader of Thanet District Council, and the former chairman of the South East England Development Agency James Brathwaite analyse how the strategy can be successfully implemented (08.08).

Also on the programme, Maidstone Borough Council has put forward proposals to increase car parking charges in Maidstone and encourage car sharing.

Traffic in Maidstone is predicted to increase by 42% in the next 14 years. The Council has proposed to raise parking charges and reorganise the town's Park And Ride service to combat the increase in pollution and congestion.
