Rugadh Breandán Ó Doibhlin i gContae Thír Eoghain sa bhliain 1931, agus d’fhreastail sé ar Choláiste Cholmcille i nDoire. Fuair Ó Doibhlin oiliúint mar shagart i gColáiste Phádraig Mhá Nuad agus sa Róimh. Tar éis dó iar-chéimeanna a chur i gcrích i bParas agus i mBaile Átha Cliath, ceapadh mar Ollamh le Fraincis é i gColáiste Phádraig Mhá Nuad.

Breandán Ó Doibhlin is a pioneer of Irish literary criticism, who set up the Maynooth School of Criticism and revolutionised Irish language literature in the 1960s.
Born in Rooskey in County Tyrone in 1931, Ó Doibhlin was educated at St. Columb’s in Derry, and was trained as a priest at St. Patrick’s College Maynooth as well as in Rome. After completing post-graduate degrees in Paris and in University College Dublin, Ó Doibhlin was appointed as Professor with French in Maynooth.
