Prescriptions up for ADHD drug

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

We are talking about ADHD today - and the drug Ritalin that is prescribed in many cases to manage it. Prescriptions are up 25% in three years here in Kent to an all-time high - around 90% of doses are given to children and teenagers.

But one of the country's leading psychiatrists says he is shocked children as young as three are being prescribed Ritalin.

He is also worried that alternative talking therapies for patients could be scaled back in the NHS cuts.

Professor Tim Kendall drew up the guidelines for ADHD and Ritalin use in the NHS (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07).

Do you use your local playing field?

The Kent Football Association says it's "deeply concerned" about the future of playing fields in Kent as local authorities come under increasing pressure to cut costs.

Eight out of ten playing fields in Kent are publicly owned and the Kent FA fears many could be sold off by the councils which own them (06:25, 07:22 and 08:39).

They say, that if at first you do not succeed, try, try again. And this morning the Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark and Kent County Council leader Paul Carter will be doing just that.

They are meeting the Roads Minister Mike Penning to press the case again for the widening of the A21 in West Kent (06:21).
