Christopher Tappin granted bail in Texas

A retired businessman from Kent - who extradited to the United States over arms dealing charges - has been granted bail and is expected to be released later this week.

The family of 65-year-old Christopher Tappin, from Orpington, will need to raise fifty-thousand-dollars to have him freed, and he will have to stay in Texas.

His wife, Elaine Tappin, said she was relieved and "grateful for the judge's humanity" (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07).

More than 5,000 people have signed up to a social media campaign opposing what it is claimed is the downgrading of the A&E department at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. East Kent Hospitals Trust is proposing to move some emergency services to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

But Stuart Bain, chief executive of the East Kent University NHS Foundation Trust, says only a very small number of patients will be affected (06:25, 07:20 and 08:24).

The world famous clipper, the Cutty Sark is due to be re-opened to the public, this week.

You will recall, the ship was badly damaged in a fire in 2007 and has undergone a multi-million pound conservation project. Chatham Dockyard here in Kent proudly played its part in the restoration process (08:53).
