Members of Conservative-controlled Kent County Council look likely to back a 2,000-signature petition from parents in Sevenoaks, calling for some sort of grammar provision in the town for the first time.

Residents living close to a lay-by on the A20 say they are sick and tired of truckers using it as a toilet and want something done about it. The lay-by is in the village of Westwell, but campaigners say it is a growing problem across the county with lay-bys filling up with human waste and urine filled bottles.

Truckers say that if there were more lorry parks and they were more affordable then it would not be happening, and now one East Kent MP is inviting the transport secretary to come and see for herself the scale of the problem.

A Kent MP who caused controversy with his comments about gay marriage, is defending his remarks saying he believes the meaning of the word "marriage" is unique to the union between a man and a woman. Sir Roger Gale wrote an article saying he is opposed to the coalition's current proposal to legalise "gay marriage".
