The former holder of the position, who is standing again on 3 May, has weighed into the estuary airport debate, with a resounding rejection of a proposal put forward by his Conservative rival Boris Johnson.
Exclusive research for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has revealed that parts of east Kent have lost more businesses over the last two years than almost anywhere else in the country. Shepway came third from bottom for business growth, with only Hounslow and Knowsley in Liverpool faring worse.
But it is not all bad news. The wider South East is still seen as the engine for growth for the rest of the country.
