Eight Kent rural fire stations to close

Eight village fire stations in Kent are to close in April. The decision has been taken by the Kent Fire and Rescue Authority, which says the service needs a thorough overall to meet modern needs.

Managers say there has been a 25% drop in the number of callouts since 2005, and they have got too many fire engines.

The plans will save Β£12m over the next three years, but there will be no compulsory redundancies (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07).

Kent police rescued 16 children suspected of being sexually abused last year, after finding their images on the internet.

The force's online investigation team came to the aid of another 71 children, through intelligence gathering.

Kent Police recently expanded its operation and are tracking down a growing number of suspected victims 06:25; 07:22 and 08:22).

A nurse from Kent has been chosen to be part of a mobile medical team at the London Olympics this summer.

Jessie Dunford, who works at Darent Valley Hospital, beat off competition from a quarter-of-a-million people to give emergency care to athletes at the trackside.
