Why does anyone need to keep a gun at home?

There are two stories have been dominating the news over the past few days. In both cases guns were involved. The police in County Durham were told three years ago that Michael Atherton had been threatening to hurt himself, but his gun licences were not revoked.

And around 200 people held a candle-lit vigil in Salford last night to remember Indian student Anuj Bidve who was shot dead there in the early hours of Boxing Day.

Why does anyone need to keep a gun at home?

Who should pay for the cost of your care when you get old and need looking after?

More than 60 charities, health groups and experts have urged politicians to agree reforms to social care for elderly and disabled people in England. In a letter published in the Daily Telegraph, they say people are "lonely, isolated and at risk" because of problems with the current system.

Why do we find it so terrible that we should fund ourselves? Why shouldn't we sell our homes to cover the cost?
