The number of Kent residents waiting for housing rises by 60%

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

The number of people on council and housing association waiting lists in the county has shot up by nearly 60 per cent in the last ten years.

There are currently more than 45,000 people waiting for a house or flat, compared with just under 29,000 a decade ago.

There are also more than 19,000 empty homes in Kent, so could some of those be put to better use?

We speak to Kevin Lynes, who has helped to run a scheme called 'No Use Empty' at Kent County Council. We also talk to Ian Driver from the Citizens Advice Bureau in Thanet.

It is the responsbility of borough councils to provide social housing in their area. John and Clare chat to Sue Howes, the cabinet member for housing and Gravesham Borough Council, and Laura Sandys, the MP for Thanet South.

Also on the programme, we take a look at the options available to Manston Airport, after airline Flybe announced that it would stop flights from Kent to Edinburgh.

The Chief Executive of Manston Airport Charles Buchanan joins John and Clare live in the studio.

And Christmas is one of the few times of the year that men step into the scary territory of the lingerie section of shops.

In a selfless act of Christmas kindness to the men and women of Kent, John Warnett gets some handy hints from the ladies at Hoopers in Tunbridge Wells.
