Kent children in safe hands

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

Children in Kent needing social services are safer now than they were a year ago, according to a report going before county councillors this week, which explains the impact of changes made after a damning Ofsted report in October 2010 (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07.)

A plan to build a fifth Tesco within a five mile radius in and around Gravesend has provoked a protest petition, which has been signed by hundreds of people.

The latest scheme involves putting a Tesco Express between two existing local shops in Whinfell Way, on the outskirts of town (06:25, 07:22 and 08:22.)

It has been 23 years since Maidstone United sold their stadium and began ground sharing with Dartford, but yesterday work started on a new stadium, which will finally bring the Stones back to the town next year (06:41, 07:39 and 08:39.)
