By ten o'clock in the morning the sun is hammering down on the Namib Desert, yet the giraffes do not seem to notice. Blythe Loutit explains to Jonathan Scott that the giraffes here don't drink. Instead they get all the water they need from plants and dew drops from the morning fogs. Back on the elephant trail they drive in search of a bull that had moved down the valley. As they watch, they see the bull go up on its hind legs and pull seedpods from a tree. They also see an elephant calf with deformed hind feet and not much idea how to use its trunk yet, but it gets plenty of attention from its mother. Eventually 14 elephants gather - probably the largest group in the area - despite the lack of vegetation.
