Noisy neighbours
A pine marten and her babies set up home in a loft.
A playful and noisy inhabitant has moved into Matthew Wilson's loft, but it's not everyday you find one of the country’s rarest animals sharing your home. Gordon Buchanan goes to investigate. Matthew’s house guests are a female pine marten and her new babies. Matthew has set up his own nest camera so he can see an intimate portrait of pine marten life directly on to his television downstairs. The loft provides a perfect nest space for this female, with the roof top entrance ensuring the kits are extremely safe from predators. But it does mean that when she leaves to go hunting there's quite an obstacle course to negotiate before she can get into the woods beyond. Gordon sets up his camera to try and capture footage of the female leaving the nest. She clambers out of the entrance then has to leap up on the narrow window ledge before scooting down the slippery slates and jumping to the ground. But Gordon loses sight of her so leaves a camera with Matthew to try again the next day. Sure enough he captures the full assault course!
