Weasel attack
The Springwatch team began watching the reed warbler nest on the 5th June 2008, but over the weekend, there was a dramatic development. Two chicks were left in the nest after one chick had fledged, and the parents were constantly nearby looking after them and encouraging them. Another one decided to leave as the day went on, leaving one last chick alone in the nest. As dusk drew near, an invader from below launched a sudden attack. A weasel shoots up out of nowhere attacking the nest to take an easy meal of the little chick. The adult female does her best to frighten off the predator but it’s unclear whether the chick survived.
