David Attenborough is in a boat listening to a nocturnal frog chorus. Amphibians were the first backboned animals to emerge on to land and there are now over 6,000 species of amphibians, with new ones constantly being discovered. We may not often see them, but during the breeding season we certainly hear the frogs and toads. But there are also newts, salamanders and caecilians. All amphibians have skin that they must keep moist if they are to survive.
