Watching TV
As usual Cindy is first into the research room, eager to try out the new game on offer. At first she tries to work out just what this new game is, but there doesn't seem to be one, just images on a screen of chimps in the wild. Then Cindy starts watching the screen, not looking for any game, just watching the images. She approaches the screen, touching occasionally, but without looking for any reward - this is an important result for the research. It raises many questions: what is Cindy seeing on screen, does she recognise the images as other chimps and if so what does she feel? Research elsewhere has shown that chimps feel complex emotions.
