Bulking up

The black bears of the Minnesota woods have just five months to fatten up before they need to go into hibernation. By the time green shoots begin to appear in May they are obsessed with food and the new shoots are packed with easily digestible nutrients. As the days begin to heat, the bears can move on to their favourite food: ant larvae. Just like anteaters, they have long sticky tongues, powerful claws and plenty of strength to rip open logs and find an ant nest.
