The hunting season in this area has been reduced to just six weeks each year, but less than a week into the season two recently collared study bears have been shot. Research has proven that the more contact bears have with humans the less chance there is of an attack, with only three fatalities in the last 100 years in the Eastern United States resulting from black bears. The researchers here are desperately trying to change the attitudes of people towards these animals, before they lose many more.
