World's best song
One of the whale success stories, the humpback whale has seen a marked increase in population size since the whaling ban was implemented, with as many as four times the number now living in the world's oceans. Stephen and Mark are delighted to see so many of them in one place. Believing the humpbacks to have the best song of all the whales Mark lets Stephen listen to a nearby male through a hydrophone. Each song can last up to half an hour - one of the longest and most complex songs of the entire animal kingdom.
