Since Yesterday: The Untold Story of Scotland's Girl Bands

The story of the trailblazing Scottish girl bands who challenged a male-dominated industry.

A feature-length documentary unearthing Scotland’s trailblazing girl bands, from 1960 onwards, that are missing from the ranks of global success. These artists were, and continue to be, ignored by the selective bias of a male-dominated industry.

Blending personal anecdotes from a host of bands including Jeanette Gallacher from The McKinleys (the first Scottish girl band to break into the charts in 1964, and the first girl band to ever play Wembley Arena), The Ettes, Strawberry Switchblade, The Hedrons, Sophisticated Boom Boom, Sunset Gun, His Latest Flame, The Twinsets, Lung Leg and Hello Skinny. The film takes us on a decade-by-decade adventure, crafting the ultimate visual mixtape. It takes a critical look at the barriers women have faced making music in the past, and still face today. It asks how we can inspire young women to make music, and if those who do so are continuously erased from our cultural history.

Discover unheard demos, lost archives and rare performances that celebrate the women who never compromised, and subsequently got lost in time. The film takes a critical look at the barriers women have faced making music in the past, and still face today. Written and narrated by award-nominated musician Carla J Easton, this is a powerful, global story told through a local lens.
