Celebrating Soaps
Two teams of actors from Welsh language drama series Pobol y Cwm mark the show’s 50th birthday by battling it out in Builth Wells with experts Kate Bliss and Izzie Balmer.
Danny Sebastian finds himself in a bubble bath at the start of this special episode – but it’s not that kind of soap he’s talking about! He’s celebrating TV soap operas in a drama-filled showdown between two teams of actors.
In red are Donna Edwards and Dyfan Rees, and in blue are Sera Cracroft and Sophie Mensah, all co-stars from Welsh language drama series Pobol y Cwm, which marks its 50th birthday this year. Pobol y Cwm is set in a fictional rural community in west Wales, with plenty of plot twists and turns. Danny takes a peek behind the scenes on their film set and also meets TV soap superfan Steve Marshall, who has spent the last 40 years building an impressive collection of memorabilia from EastEnders, Emmerdale, Coronation Street and other long-running dramas.
It’s lights, camera, action as the actors shop for antiques at a huge fair in Builth Wells, mid Wales. Guiding Donna and Dyfan is Kate Bliss. Their first spot is an old London street sign, but does it point the way to a profit? Over with the blues, a rustic kitchen table catches Sophie’s eye, but the price tag says ‘sold’. And there’s an impromptu Welsh lesson for expert Izzie Balmer.
There’s plenty of drama at the auction in Royal Wootton Bassett, but which team will exit stage left with the most profit?
